For grant writing, the rules are different.

• You should use I and my
• You need to sell the research AND the researcher
• You make a promise
• Explain
  • why the location was chosen
  • Why now
  • Where is the gap (problem-oriented)
  • What your outcomes will be
    • 3 peer reviewed papers, 2 conferences
• Persuasive -> I will keep my promise and fill a gap
• Story driven
  • Not "and this, and this".
  • Instead "This, therefore, but"
• Structure
  • Intro/context = staging
    • first 2-3 sentences are punch!
  • Set-up the gap -> we know this, we don't know this
• Significance -> "I will/my research will provide/inform/influence"
• They evaluate scope, evidence of claims, and strengths of claims
