Correction accountability

• Being accountable means a responsibility to do something if it's not working

  • Without having known that, that's what I just did

• Feel accountable too because I said I would release 12 episodes until December 25th

We need to change the world

• We already know we need to change the world
  • Or rather, we feel like we do - otherwise you wouldn't be still listening
• Go back to first principles
  • It's not about the people, it's about our systems
    • It's rigid, ruled by capital that is blind to the human experience.
• So if we want to truly change the world, it's not about reducing carbon emissions, or buying an electric car, or another attempt at a global policy
  • It's about changing the systems
    • All systems. Political, education, healthcare
    • Otherwise, no matter what we do, it will get worse
      • These systems are interwoven
      • These systems are too big

    • Explain why some countries are rich and some are poor
    • Good institutions - good systems
      • reliable, consistent, based on trust
    • Causation between good institution and good economies
  • Opposite is true. Bad institution lead to poor countries
    • Look around, many poor countries were colonized
    • Why?
      • What institution were created for these colonized states?
    • Example of India:
      • Centralized bureaucracy, rigid property system, uneven development
      • Goal of the colony was to get money for the mainland
        • Required domination of existing population
          • Keep them silenced
          • All the power to the governors
          • based on extraction
  • Don't want to get into the history today
  • Today, we're thinking solutions
• First, need a common language

    • Change can happen - already is
    • Disorganized - lead us in a crisis
      • Intentional, slow, careful
    • Ways of thinking
  • isn't one big idea
    • It is dream - It is a vision - or rather a collection of visions
      • From which big ideas can grow
  • This has been part of it since the beginning
    • From the stories of dreams I shared with you
    • From a course that teaches about the building blocks Navision
    • Everything carefully planned all finally put into action so that you can hear it today

    • People running around not knowing
      • Where they're going
      • Why they're doing what they're doing
      • Tired, heads down
• Listen the people
  • Bobs -> Stop worrying so much. Discount future
  • Homers -> The workers. Just do what they're told without asking questions
  • Donalds -> Politicians of the boat. Supposed to guide us but saying non-sense
    • Change him or her, get more or less the same
      • Like waves, undoing what the other did
    • All are bending over to industry - to Capital
  • Marks -> Billionaires. Quiet but making money in the back (more than he needs)
    • Secretly influencing the world with lobbying

    • Motivate people and help them go in the same direction
    • Ways of thinking to ways of being
• Vision is on where we want to go, but also a vision on how to get there. It's a map.
• Need the combination of the two - Navigate and vision

Continued boat analogy

• Look around, not at the people
  • Boat is BIG
    • Industrial cities -> machine
      • Producing, selling, throwing out
      • Creating more, not caring about waste -> a machine
        • Alive, but not conscious of itself
        • That's the systems we have in place
    • Pumping resources from the boat to throw them in another corner
      • Destroy forests, break down mountains, drain lakes
      • Has limits -> stuck on boat
    • Many people
      • Many that want to act but don't know how
      • Mostly good people
      • Disorganized
        • Cannot communicate
        • No shared vision
        • Mostly just talk
        • Few that are acting
          • Leads nowhere, or little improvements
• Gretas -> what she does not realize
  • Acts but within the systems of these industrial cities
  • Looking at the system that caused to problem to ask to solve it
    • Problem is system-specific
      • System will create same problems
      • Need to change the system!!
        • She knows that
        • Wants a revolution
    • Systems are self-sustaining
      • They are built not to change
        • Even revolution, so rigid it will likely have same problems
        • Basing a revolution on past revolutions is not using first principles
      • They don't mind if you protest, can just silence you
  • How she speaks is dooming
    • Urgency, crisis
      • Creates panic
    • Build something good when in panic?

A silent revolution

• Not about a revolution to change current system
  • Build a system in parallel
• Move away from these industrial cities (machines) and starting a settlement
  • The city is impacting the way we think
    • Believe what the city is telling us to believe
  • City has failed us, so leave
• Don't repeat the same mistakes
  • Don't need this huge system
  • Start where we are with what we have
    • Always where you get started
• Doesn't mean we can't communicate with the city
  • No self-sufficient
  • Still good things within the city
  • Grow the settlement until it becomes a better version of city
  • There is no success story of alternative systems
    • We need to create that success story
      • Slowly the city will learn from us
      • It will become aware of itself
      • Need to go outside to get a fresh pair of eyes

  • From your past, think of moments where you were happy with your way of life and figure out why
    • Maybe you had lots of energy at one point because you exercised a lot
    • Or you used to spend more time with friends and family
  • From your past, think of moments where you were not happy with your way of life and figure out why
    • Maybe you used to be addicted to drugs
    • Or you were stressed all the time because of a job you had
