A friend introduced me to another of his friend at a gathering
- He said I had a podcast
- Shy
- Practice explaining what it is
- Talked about WOTs
- Talked about taking the idea to the next level
- Practice explaining what it is

-
Said decentralization,
- he interrupted me and told me about anarcho-syndicalism
- Explain to me what it was
- Decentralization too
- Said I would look into it
- Didn't talk again about this that night
-
Guy heard decentralization
- Thought "I know what it is, let me show you what I know"
- Made an assumption
-
Way back home, looked it up
- Good exercise to compare it to Navision
-
Anarcho-syndicalism
- Wikipedia: "an organizational model that centers trade unions as a vehicle for class conflict."
- Similar to communism
- Focus their ideology on solving the class conflict
- Poor vs rich
- "Us vs them" way of thinking
- Comes from a place of anger
- Focus their ideology on solving the class conflict
-
Organized with trade Unions
- Anarchist organization
- Anarchy is an organization model that has no rulers.
- Funny, defined by what it isn't
- Not by what it is
- Ideas = all citizens rule and govern
- Argument that this freedom, lack of rule, bring chaos
- According to anarchist, it's the opposite. Freedom from the state brings back order.
- Funny, defined by what it isn't
- Anarchy is an organization model that has no rulers.
- Anarchist organization
-
Navision is organized quite differently
- Not anarchy
- No rulers, but there are leaders that emerges
- Organization of smaller networks can be different from one to the next
- Doesn't matter for larger network
- Not anarchy
-
Anarcho-syndicalism built on trying to solve a problem (class conflict)
- Problem emerged because of the current system
- Not built on first principles
- Doesn't question whether class conflict arises from the way we live or how we consume
- Doesn't look at what we want to build, it looks at what it wants to avoid
-
Grow trade unions until they can overtake governments
- Replace current system
- Not creating a new system disconnected
- Assumes everyone is part of that system
- Even those who don't believe in it
- No pilots, no learning
- Assumes their idea will work without testing it
- Replace current system
-
Built on a theory
- It's a big idea. A singular big idea. A singular vision
- They are seeing only one tree
- How to organize the economy to prevent class conflict
- That is one tree
- They are seeing only one tree
- Navision is the forest
- It's not a big idea
- It's the soil where big ideas can grow
- It's not a big idea
- Built to be practical
- Don't focus on theoretical destination
- Focus on how to get there
- It's a big idea. A singular big idea. A singular vision
-
These ideas can span all aspects of society, not just the economy
- May be non-sense for a lot of people, but they make sense to you, and hopefully to you too
- If it doesn't, let me know, so I can make my explanations clearer
-
Like I said, Navision is not trying to be anything else than itself
- I've never studied ideologies. I'm aware of them, but that's it.
- A friend once said to me: most times, the people that revolutionize a field are people that come from outside the field.
- why? Because they don't have preconceived ideas. They can build with first principles. And in my case, my main thing is complex systems.
- So when I started this project, I decided that I would not go out looking for answers in things that were already out there. And these ideas are out there and are not implemented, maybe it's because they don't work.
-
No, instead, what guided me through all this is what a Good Life looks to me
- Based, unlike these other ideologies, on a Way of life
- Which is the title of this episode.
Story
Intro
What did we talk about
- Humanity is on a big boat
- The boat is heading toward something dangerous
- Cities on this boat that are the cause of the problems
- Leaving the city to build a settlement
- We're not leaving alone, but as a tribe
- We're planning our settlement to replicate the organization of a forest
???
- Gas industry
- Destroyed the land
- If profitable, why subsidized?
- !Argument that it creates jobs is stupid
- Would you harvest moon dust event if it supports jobs? The problem is a need for income. Need for income is NOT to survive, but to afford luxuries of our times (technology and always more)
- !Argument that it creates jobs is stupid
Before building the settlement, lets think of what kind of life we want to grow within it
- Forests support our Ways of life
- Sustainable
- Includes being fulfilled
- Reconnecting people with
- Nature
- Other people
- Themselves
- Decisions that impacts them
- Sustainable
- We look back at the city, see how people live there
- There are workers
- Gears in the machine
- A number
- Treated as spare part
- Run machine as fast as possible, knowing some will break
- Gears can be replaced
- Mental health crisis
- Run machine as fast as possible, knowing some will break
- Inequality
- CEO 40X worker, now 300X
- Doctor 4X nurse, now 8X
- Firm owner 5X secretary, now 15X
- Workers are consumers
- Harder to afford basic things
- Food
- Accommodation
- Being manipulated with advertisement and social media
- Using psychological tricks
- Abuse our attention
- Commodity = sell us more things
- Harder to afford basic things
- There are some small business owners
- Cannot compete or bought by large chains
- Large chains manipulate the market
- Sell us crap that they know will break down
- Large chains manipulate the market
- Cannot compete or bought by large chains
- There are people who want to change things
- Incite you to vote one of two option
- Dividing people
- Breaking down trust
- Pretending like it will change
- Dividing people
- System doesn't prevent have good leaders
- Doesn't happen, why?
- People who want leadership positions are self-interested
- Why? Capitalist system is teaching us
- We should be self-interested
- Capital, money is the central idea of both sides
- Incite you to vote one of two option
- System is not designed for human life
- Designed for accumulation of capital
- Money machine
- Keep the machine running, designed for control
- Control with technology
Analogy
Analogy of the settlement
- A settlement is a small village
- Settle assumes new ground
- We're pioneers
- Settle assumes new ground
- Priority items
- Housing
- Finding food, hunting and farming
- Many projects going on at once
- Take many roles

- See what they like
- See what they're good at
- Not just work, purpose -> tied to survival
- Mix of communities
- Tribes
- People that trust one another
- Similar vision
- Fun together
- End of the day
- Relax + Appreciate work they've done before moving on to the next thing
- Once survival is established
- Continue to build, improve
- We can slow down
- People are joining
- Pace that can be supported by settlement
- Don't need to go viral - will loose control of settlement
- Needs onboarding
- Bring your city way of life, we will build a city, not a settlement
- If you come open minded, you will let go of who you were. You will become someone new
- Pace that can be supported by settlement
- Vision

!!!
- Rely on each other
- Not only about work
- Don't count our time
- Have fun
- Not at war
- Concerned about survival
- Thriving
- Different definition
- Thriving
- D
- I want to travel
- I want a parcel of land to care for
- Not everyone wants that
- Ultimately, it's about managing not wanting what others have that I don't have
- Communism is to fight that idea. You can't envy someone if everyone owns the same thing
- But I think it's looking at the problem the wrong way
- We're unhappy. Source of unhappiness is the fact you don't have this or that
- Way of life transform to belief system
Analogy of the turtle
- As we take care, we realize that humanity is not on a boat
- Giant turtle
- Alive and has agency
- May want to get rid of us
- May still change her mind
- Get ready for the impact anyways
- Reminder not to grow too confident
- Wary but confident
- Same for the city (wary)
- Diverge in idea
- Even if we're not directly opposing it, may still want to get rid of us
- Best defense is decentralization
- Power divided so destroying one part doesn't destroy the whole
- Wary but confident

Exercise
- System to support building something you're proud of
- Say spend less time watching TV
- Doesn't matter if you have time if you have no energy because you'll end up watching TV
- System to manage your energy to start building something you're proud of
- If you start with what you have to do, you deplete your energy
- Comes the time to work on this other thing, no energy left
- If you start with what you have to do, you deplete your energy
- Identify when do you have most energy?
- When you should work on this
- Find strategies when you have low energy
- What gets you started?
- 5 minute timer / promise of a small reward

- Tree of knowledge
- Theory of carbon sequestration and fire. I take piece of knowledge and branch it out in learning about something. Research is like a branch(high analogy). Your roots are all the ideas you pull from, make a theory (tree) and you branch in questions (hypothesis). As the ideas become proven, they go into the roots and soil for nee ideas to grow from. Why it’s called a tree of knowledge.
